Project Lunch by Teens Turning Green

Dear Friends,

In follow up to Michelle Obama's recent White House gathering of 1,000 chefs and her call to action that each chef mentor another school to develop a healthy lunch program, Teens Turning Green has an idea.

What:

TTG is launching Project Lunch (see attached) with the goal of ensuring that every single child in every single school has the opportunity to eat healthy food at lunch, and to understand the vital connection of health food to a healthy mind, body, and earth.

We plan to do this by bringing together many members of our community ( and others ) who are doing amazing work ; to share resources, best practices and mentor schools in our community and beyond. As a magnificent and strong community of change makers – this is a vital focus for all of us and for our future generations.

Why we’re writing to you:

We’d like to gather a group of local stakeholders to help guide this project. As so much work is currently being done to address healthy food in this community, we’d like to gather people in all aspects of school food together for monthly workshops and see what brilliance transpires. This includes:

• Leaders of local non-profits working on this issue

• School administrators and food service directors

• School chefs with healthy lunch programs in place

• PTA/parent leaders

• Organic/local food business owners

• And most importantly, students with a voice for change

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, June 29, at Marin Country Day School, and each month after to share our vision and engage thought around how to make Project Lunch in collaboration the most successful effort we can in support to feed our kids well.

What we’re asking of you:

I would like to ask if you would be willing to serve on this collective stakeholder committee and attend 6 monthly meetings starting Tuesday, June 29 and continuing through November to help us brainstorm and plan.

At each gathering we will have a communal dinner, speakers from this community to share wisdom, and breakout sessions to come up with awesome ideas to help us build this program.
